Brief Description:

Job Opportunity for an experienced machine operator for a local food distributor. Must High School Diploma/GED. Must have a valid drivers. Must be able to pass a background and drug screen. Preferred GMP and food safe experience. Must be able to mult-task, work in a faced paced environment, and function well as part of a team. Candidate can not have any food allergens.

Function

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for operation of the Liquid Packaging Equipment and Lines, establishing priorities per production guidelines.

  • Responsible for running and maintaining packaging equipment which includes labelers, scales, conveyors, coders and other related packaging safely and efficiently in relation to material usage documentation, product waste, sealing, coding and weight control.

  • Ensures compliance with Production/Packaging procedure/practices

  • Inspecting all areas within the production line/equipment for any operational and/or mechanical issues

  • Takes corrective action and notifying supervision and/or management.

  • Follows all Good Manufacturing Practices.

  • Works safely, assure guards are in place, using proper Lock-out/Tag-out procedure as applicable.

  • Review production orders.

  • Ability to read set up sheet and then adjust the parameters in the PLS control panel for the product to be run.

  • Sets up line based on production schedule.

  • Maintains line speed/standards.

  • Fills out all documents, process form, weight sheet, production orders, scrap log, downtime log, and OEE.

  • Returns all unopened materials to warehouse clean.

  • Orders packaging material (paper, poly, cartons) from storage as needed.

    • Visually inspects boxes, cartons and other packaged materials for printing defects.

    • Ensures proper sizing of product containers.

  • Loads packaging material onto machines in timely manner to ensure no line stoppages, and proper packaging materials are used during production.

  • Monitors equipment operation and performs necessary adjustments to ensure product specifications are met.

  • Performs net weight control checks and makes equipment adjustments as needed.

  • Communicates any changes in product flow, equipment malfunctions, shortages or deviations from specifications to Production Supervisor or Production Manager.

  • Inspects packaging, coding and seals to verify conformance to specifications and performs necessary adjustments to ensure compliance.

  • Will have working knowledge and experience with machine operations; watching for jams and effectively threading film to prevent cost downtime due to operator error.

  • Ensure machine is supplied with correct material needed to run and complete log books as required.

  • Prepare equipment for next run to include size changes as needed.

  • Ensure all paperwork is filled out in a clear, legible and accurate format, and completed with required information.

  • Ensure all required information is documented in accordance with SOP's.

  • Utilizing continuous improvement mindset, assist in identifying opportunities to improve processes.

  • Expected to work in other areas as needed.

  • Perform other duties as assigned

     

Food Safety Responsibilities

  • Support Quality Assurance programs to ensure production procedures/practices are in compliance with food safety and quality standards.

  • Follows proper Allergen procedures

    • Tags line/equipment that needs cleaning.

  • Maintains line clean and organized.

  • Inspects ingredient bags, containments for damage or tampering before use.

  • Follows all required work safe practices.

    • Includes wearing of all required PPE in designated areas, confined space safety, safe chemical handling, fall restraints, etc.

  • Responsible for the food safety, pre-requisite programs, and food quality related to designated area.

  • Responsible for controlling documentation of non-conforming product, raw material ingredient, work-in-progress, packaging or equipment detected processing.  

  • Responsible for ensuring: Non-conforming product is identified and quarantined, in a manner that minimizes the risk of inadvertent use, improper use or risk to the integrity of finished product.

  • Notifies Production Lead of non-conforming equipment to minimize the risk of inadvertent use, improper use or risk to the integrity of finished product.

  • Responsible for following product rework methods.

  • Responsible for the cleaning of the equipment

    • Consideration given to what is to be cleaned, how it is to be cleaned, when it is to be cleaned using correct concentrations of detergents and sanitizers.

  • Responsible for collecting dry waste and store prior to removal from the premises, documenting packaging waste.

Requirment Note

Qualifications

  • High School diploma is required.  

  • Two years' experience in a food manufacturing environment with knowledge of food GMPs preferred.  

  • Good reading, writing and math skills.  

  • Able to multi-task, work in a fast-paced environment and function well as part of a team.

 Physical Demands

Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms.

Ability to lift up to 50lbs.

Work Environment

This is an indoor food processing environment that may have wet floors, humid and/or dusty conditions. The ambient noise level does not currently require the use of ear plugs although these are available.
