Career Opportunity available now for an Experience Maintenance Technician  at a local food distributor. 2-5 years Maintenance Experience is Required.  High School Diploma/GED and Valid Drivers License is Required. Must be able to pass a background and drug screen. Preferred GMP and food safe experience. Must be able to multi-task, work in a faced paced environment, and function well as part of a team. Candidate can not have any food allergens. Pay range is $20.00 - $25.00 an hour based on experience. 

Function

  • Ensures operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements on engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines; following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and engineering specifications; troubleshooting malfunctions.
  • Locate sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation; listening for problems; using precision measuring and testing instruments.
  • Remove defective parts by dismantling devices; using hoists, cranes, and hand and power tools; examining form and texture of parts.

  • Determine changes in dimensional requirements of parts by inspecting used parts; using rules, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments.

  • Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments by using hand tools, levels, plumb bobs, and straightedges.

  • Control downtime by informing Production Manager and scheduling functions of routine preventive maintenance techniques; monitoring compliance.

  • Fabricate repair parts by using machine shop instrumentation and equipment.

  • Maintain equipment, parts, and supplies inventories by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed equipment, parts, and supplies; placing and expediting orders; verifying receipt.

  • Conserves maintenance resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.

  • Provides maintenance information by answering questions and requests.

  • Prepares maintenance reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.

  • Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing technical publications; establishing personal networks.

  • Maintains continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.

  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.

  • Perform routine maintenance of plant and equipment according to the schedule and record.

  • Record failures of plant and equipment - review and, if appropriate, incorporate into the maintenance control schedule;
  • Comply with the personnel and process hygiene requirements for maintenance staff and contractors

  • Ensure facility management is notified when maintenance or repairs are to be undertaken in any food handling area;

  • Inform facility management if any repairs or maintenance pose a potential threat to product safety (i.e. pieces of electrical wire, damaged light fittings, and loose overhead fittings). When possible, conduct maintenance outside processing times

  • Remove all tools and debris from any maintenance activity once it has been completed and inform the area supervisor and maintenance supervisor so appropriate hygiene and sanitation can be completed prior to the commencement of facility operations.

  • The maintenance schedule  shall be prepared to cover building, equipment and other areas of the premises critical to the maintenance of product safety and quality.

  • Lubricate with food grade lubricants any equipment located over product or product conveyors and control so as to minimize the contamination of the product.

  • Any paint used in a food handling or contact zone shall be suitable for use and in good condition and shall not be used on any product contact surface.

  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

Organizational Relationships

This position reports to the Plant Manager. In the event of absence, workload assignments shall be adjusted by the Maintenance/ Safety Coordinator.   This position may be required to be "on-call" in response to off-shift maintenance coverage needs.

Internal communications with – Plant Management, Quality Assurance, Maintenance, Procurement, Warehouse.

Physical Demands

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
The employee must be able to stand for long periods of time.
The employee must be able to work in close proximity to food manufacturing machinery.

           Work Environment.

This is an indoor food processing environment that may have wet floors, humid and/or dusty conditions. The ambient noise level does not currently require the use of ear plugs, although these are available.   Facility regularly processes known food allergens.
